Universal Motor
The Universal Motor works similar to the DC series motor and can be operated in any household AC frequency or DC current. While in load high speed and power can be output through this machine, thus explaining why this kind of motor is used for various domestic applications. The Universal Motor trainer is designed to teach the principles of universal motors and it can serve as a variable speed prime mover. It operates on AC and DC voltages. Two windings with intermediate tapping and the armature are connected to 4mm terminals on the housing. The brush positions are changeable. Specifications and/or diagrams are silk-screened on the back of a clear-plastic front panel for ease of identification. The trainer is protected by a either a diode or thermal-magnetic circuit breaker. Included in the Rotating Machines Trainer for 1/3 hp - 250 W. Requires a 120V 60Hz circuit.
