In order tosupply a vacuum for brake boosters, vacuum pumps are used in both diesel and,increasingly, in Otto engines. The pump has a very simple and robust set-up andnevertheless has a very high capacity. If the rotor is turned, the enlargementand reduction of the working area can be seen particularly well, as can thecontact of the slide shoes in each position of the vane. The pressure andsuction valve and the oil duct are cut open.
